President Thomas Jefferson and how we are related!

I got a phone call from Clara daughter of Mary Brown Randolph!  She is visiting Monticello!!!!  I am sure that she was curious how we are related to the President.  (Someday I will be able to insert ancestor charts for your viewing pleasure.) We are all related to Mary Frances Young Crawford.  She is the mother of Clara Crawford Brown and Iva Crawford Ward Smith

President Thomas Jefferson is our first cousin.  His grandfather was Capt. Thomas Jefferson (1676-1731).  Capt Thomas and Mary Field had two sons (plus other children) Col. Peter Jefferson (father of the president) and Field Jefferson (ours).  So Clara if you can see this as you travel, you are the First Cousin 7 times removed to the President. (We are first cousins because we share the same grandparents. We are 7 generations apart (removed) from the President)

Donald Moore of Reedley CA s/o Charles Moore

Donald Moore is the son of Charles and Annie Snodgrass Moore. Uncle Charlie lost two of his boys when they were in their twenties. The third son, Darrell and his wife Jennie had no children.  Uncle Charlie and Aunt Annie were loved by all their immediate families. 

Seems I read a newspaper article about George Donald “Don” and how he died.     

   Ahh – I found that I transcribed a clipping about Don’s death into my FTM notes:

Wonder what was in Reedley?     It reads as if he was no longer in the Marine Corps and was back in school —  describes him as being a “high school junior”.       I don’t have an exact date of birth for him.   Do you happen to have one?   I only have “1911”.     Seems I wasn’t able to find him in the CA Birth Index.      Do you have a burial place for him?    I’ll bet he’s buried in Reedley Cem., but that’s just a guess.

Questions in random order.

Did Aunt Annie and Clarance Moore have any grandchildren?  The reason I am asking is because she was the one that kept track of the family.  She wrote the letters and when she visited Iva and Betty, she would really talk. If those letters survived, that would be a gold mine.

Was Valeria Brown born in 1920 like my records say? Unicorn says yes.

This blog is just now reaching the public. Right now, we are working on the Crawford line. 

Mary Francis Young married John Henderson Crawford. Mary is the Grandmother of Mary Brown.

Donald Moore is the Grandson of Patience Shaw who married (1) James B. Crawford and (2) Anderson Wethford Moore.

The Crawfords are related to the Mahan’s through Mary Francis Young who married John Henderson Crawford. Mary Young is the d/o Valeria Ann Julina Smith Mahan. Valeria is the d/o John Alexander Mahan and Cynthia Anzolett Merriman Jefferson.

We are trying to work on people that my Mom knew.  The more you find out, the more questions you have to ask.
